Vernon Blazers take Kelowna Cup

The Hockey season is finally over, time to hang up the skates and start cheering from the sidelines in a different sport. Bring on the soccer season!  I have enjoyed an amazing season of coaching my Pee Wee hockey team the Vernon Blazers. We ended the season in style with a very high-pressure tournament win in Kelowna. The Kelowna Cup  hosted 20 teams from around our province, thus making it the largest Pee Wee tournament in BC. We started the round robin with three straight wins over Kelowna, Abbotsford and 100 mile house.

Then it was time to sharpen our skills against a very tough team from Maple Ridge. This semi-final game was much closer than the 4-0 score posted. After the big semi-final win we were off to the Gold Medal game against another undefeated team, the Penticton Fire. After a slow start we fell behind 3-1 after two periods. I had to re-group our troops and encouraged them to not give up.We fought on with 5 straight goals to win 6-3 and the Gold Medal . I was so proud of these young players for not giving up and having faith in themselves to pull off this amazing win. This proved to be a very memorable weekend for the players, coaches and parents. Thank you all for such a wonderful season ... Coach Blaine
