Live Like Alex

Last weekend my daughter and her 6 person team from the University of Waterloo Cheerleading team participated in the #LiveLikeAlex Water Walk.

I feel like I should explain a bit about who Alex was.  My daughter Sydney met Alex in 2014 when Sydney applied to the University of Waterloo Urban Planning Department and the Warrior Cheerleading Team.  Alex was on the cheerleading team and was finishing her first year in International Development she was also from London, Ontario.  She had this amazing personality and energy.  She welcomed my daughter making her feel welcome and safe as she prepared to go to university. Alex was a selfless humanitarian and spent much of her life helping to end poverty.  She had traveled to several third world  countries for World Vision.  In the short time that they knew one another she because my daughter mentor.

Tragically, Alex died  August 7, 2014, at the age of 19, when she was hit by a cement truck while riding her bicycle home from work  at Wharncliffe Road and Riverside Drive.

It was Alex's dream to raise awareness and funds for water projects around the world.

The Water Walk is a 6 km walk (the average walk someone from a developing country walks to collect water) for a team up to 6 people carrying a Jerry Can full of water.  For more information about the Water Walk

Sunday was a brutally hot day and i am proud to say that everyone completed the walk and my daughters team alone raised over $1500.00.
