IRON HORSE FESTIVAL CANCELLED THIS YEAR

For the first time in 19 years, the Ironhorse Festival did not take place. It would've normally been this past weekend. UPDATE HOUSE FIRE STARTED ON VERANDA

Flames ripped through a home on Wellington St, just west of Park Ave early Friday morning. Chief Fire Prevention Officer Bill Todd said the fire started on the veranda, and this is the reason the fire alarms - which were working - didn't go off right away. He says while the house was gutted, everyone did a good job - six people were in the house and all escaped without injury.

PRESTON NOTES "GOOD TREND" IN RECENT UMEMPLOYMENT NUMBERS

The London-St.Thomas unemployment rate has dropped to 8.6% in July, which is down from 9.2% in June and 9.8% in May. Elgin-Middlesex-London MP Joe Preston says that the number are starting to show a good trend. On a National Level, the unemployment rate rose to 7.2% in July from 7.1% in June. Ontario's rate was also up a bit to 7.6% compared to 7.5% in June.
