I like to travel and meet new people and learn about their cultures. Other special places include Alaska,Texas,Montana,Dominican Republic, Germany, Holland, Switzerland, New Zealand and Australia. I love to cook and bring recipes home from my travels to share with friends and family. I use this talent to help cater for my church and Eastern Star when they have fund raisers.
My baby Amber. A constant companion, this naturally born medic dog is a source of comfort and support when it comes to sugar lows. On many occasions she has warned me of pending trouble.
Amber was given to me at 2 1/2 years of age by a client. Amber had been her dad's dog, and after his passing, my client moved to Medicine Hat. Amber and I fell in love the first time we met, when my client came to house-hunt. Amber didn't settle into her new home, and my friend asked me if I would give her a try, as I'd just lost my own dog, so I decided to try it.
From hour one, she settled in as if she always belonged. A few nights later, I woke to find her sitting on my head licking and scratching as me aggressively. I knew something was wrong, so I got up and checked my blood sugar and found it dangerously low. My neighbor gave it much thought at the time, on several more occasions, I had similar happenings, and she began sleeping next to me. A friend mentioned to me that she might be sensitive to my condition, and was warning me. I then started paying close attention and monitored my blood every time she became aggressive with me.
Sure enough, it would be either high or low. So now I pay close attention as she senses a problem before I do. I am happy to report that she's not having to work as hard these days, since new medication better regulates my blood sugar. I still depend on her, and she is a great comfort.
