What’s in for Fall | Interior Design Trends 2013

Just moving into a new home and thinking of tackling a reno this fall? Or perhaps you are just giving a room a makeover? Either way, here are some of the 2013 fall interior design trends to help you get started on your way.

Colour Palette
There’s a little something for everyone this fall – monochromes & bright colours are in, with yellow standing out as a crowd favourite. With so many varying shades of yellow, finding one to express your individual flair is easy. Just be careful not to over do it. Yellow is a very dominant colour and is recommended it be used as an accent colour, or highlighted in a large feature piece.

Patterns
Patterns are making a bold comeback this season (especially in wallpaper)! Retro patterns, such as botanicals are particularly popular, as well as elegant patterns with a prevailing white background. If you are using various patterns in one room, mix textures and amounts of detail to keep the look interesting and tasteful.

Statement Pieces
This season’s statement pieces are fantastic for two reasons – they warm up any home (literally), and are a friend to the environment! You’ll see wood burning stoves & up-cycled furniture popping up in homes everywhere.

What exactly is up-cycled? Up-cycled is taking those older or vintage furniture pieces and giving them a new lease on life with a fresh coat of paint. Hit two trends in one by painting that antique table in a canary yellow.

The Bold Move
Feeling like you want to be a little bold this fall? Try a face or a cameo in your home. Everything from silhouettes to staring you straight in the face, these characters are bound to be appearing on chairs, accessories, walls and even tables.

Overall
If you are wanting to walk away with a sense of what the overall trend is this fall, these are the most important items you need to know:

  • Tailored, pretty patterns with metal and natural accents.
  • Key features to look for in larger upholstery pieces are clean, tailored lines, while gold, stone & wood are taking the cake in the area of accents.
