What to do with the rest of summer?

The weather is turning cool much too soon this year; it seems like just a short time ago we were screaming out “It’s finally summer!” I notice each morning it’s getting cooler and cooler, which always is a signal to me that fall is not far off. Also, soon the kids will be back to school, another signal that summer is winding down. For those of us who don’t want to let go of summer, there are still a few warm weeks left in August, and a few fun activities to partake in.

Here are some great activities coming up this month:

  1. Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan – This non-profit festival has been running since 1985 with the goal of making the Shakespeare experience accessible to all. Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan Festival Inc. features different productions of Shakespeare’s works each year, by local professional artists, in large tents on the banks of the beautiful South Saskatchewan River. Running until August 25th, this year features The Comedy of Errors and Macbeth (check the website for schedule and ticket prices)
  2. Century 21 Fusion Charity Golf Club Tournament – This annual event supports Camp Easter Seals and is a great opportunity to meet other golfers who represent Saskatchewan business in a relaxed and informal setting at the Willows Golf and Country Club. You can enter as a team of 4 or as an individual, or if you prefer not to play, simply sponsor a hole! This year’s event will be held on Thursday, August 15th, starting at noon – there’s still room to register! Call Barry for more details 306.221.2506.
  3. Saskatoon Folkfest – This annual event aims to educate the public about the different cultures within our great society through pavilions set up throughout the city highlighting 21 different world cultures. At each pavilion you’ll be treated to art, dance, and food from that country. Kids get in free with an adult and can collect stamps in their colouring passport from each location! Full information can be found within the all-access passports available at local locations. Check the website for more details. Runs August 15th-17th.
  4. PotashCorp Fireworks Festival – The hub of activity for the PotashCorp fireworks festival is along Saskatoon’s beautiful River Landing. Live shows take place on Friday and Saturday evening at both the Amphitheatre at River Landing and across the river at Rotary Park. The festival features food, fun, demonstrations and games, bike valet service, and of course the fantastic fireworks display. Runs August 30-31st.

So keep your sunscreen out, and enjoy the remains of the summer at one of the many outdoor festivals going on in Saskatoon this month.
