The Suntjens' Decide to Build a Home

I have been watching the listings and previewing houses for years waiting for something to come along that would make me want to move.  I think that my husband has been secretly sabotaging my efforts- dragging his feet on finishing the renos, knowing full well that once that paint had dried, there would be a for sale sign on our lawn.  We still have some work to do on our house, and now the push is on.

I love our house.  We waited for two years for a house to come onto the market in the downtown location that we wanted.  When it did, we jumped.  It's a wonderful 1500 sq ft bungalow with three bedrooms and huge living room.  We've called it home for the past 8 years.  We've done some renovations upstairs and fully developed the basement.  However, with the arrival of our third child last April, I find that we are starting to outgrow the space as our eldest is not old enough (in my mind) to move into the downstairs bedroom.

We had been toying with the idea of building, but in a few years time.  With all of the spring activity recently, I was starting to get nervous that "our lot" in West Bankview Estates was going to get snapped up.  We decided to talk to Lyle Stevenson, of Stevenson Homes, and yikes...we're now on our way to a mid August possession on our new house!

We are both nervous and excited.  It is a big decision to say the least.  My husband and I love the area of West Bankview with the hills and green space, proximity to the park and soccer fields.  However, we will miss the 2 minute walk to downtown (I walk to work)- to grab a slurpee, to go to the library, get a haircut, etc.  Plus there is the obviously larger financial committment.

Over the next few months, I will be blogging about the building experience.  So far, it's been great.  Lyle and Sandi Stevenson are so easy to work with.  We met with them yesterday to talk about the house plan, make a few changes, looked at a few of their spec homes currently for sale, and briefly talked about the exciting things like siding colour, cabinet and flooring choices.

Right now, I need to start painting and finishing up the projects around our house to get it ready for sale.  And I'll keep you posted on our journey!
