What does A Walk Score mean??
Walk Score is the first large-scale, public access walkability index. It is a new trend for searching for homes especially in the urban areas. This new information is provided through the MLS system and gives each buyer the ability to see the close proximity each home is to retail, restaurants, parks, and whether or not a car is needed on a daily basis.
Your Walk Score is a number between 0 and 100. Here are general guidelines for interpreting your score:
90 - 100 : Walkers’Paradise: Most errands can be accomplished on foot and without owning a car.
70 - 89 : Very Walkable: It’s possible to get by without owning a car.
50 - 69 : Somewhat Walkable: Everyday trips may require a bike, public transportation, or car.
25 - 49 : Car-Dependent: Most errands, driving or public transportation is a must.
0 - 24 : Car-Dependent: Virtually no neighborhood destinations within walking range.
There you have it! Everything you ever wanted to know about how far the amenities are from the property you have interest in or the property you own.
Walk Score uses a patent-pending system to measure the walkability of an address. The highest scores will be awarded to those properties within 1 Km to amenities. The number of points decline as the distance approaches over 1.5 Kms.
As fitness is addressed in our everyday lives, walking to the amenities is becoming more and more popular, especially within urban areas.
