The case to support a local secondary school has been well documented in the Town' Petition to the Minister of Education. The Petition clearly demonstrates that the community can support a secondary school. One that is properly maintained and adequately programmed.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – April 27, 2010

Niagara-on-the-Lake – At its meeting last evening, Town Council approved the

distribution of a sample letter expressing support for Niagara District Secondary School.

The sample letter, addressed to MPP Kim Craitor, calls on the Minister of Education to

enact a stay of the school’s closing and to recommend a collaborative approach for the

development of a new, local, right-sized, environmentally-friendly facility.

“The Town wants to move forward and develop solutions which are in the best interests

of our students and their parents. We believe we acted in good faith in the agreement

for the new Virgil Public School. We are only asking for the same consideration for our

secondary students,” stated Lord Mayor Gary Burroughs.

The sample letter to MPP Craitor will be posted on the Town’s web site under “Hot

Topics” at www.notl.org. Residents are encouraged to sign the letter and forward to Mr.

Craitor’s office, with copies to the Minister of Education, the Premier and Opposition

critics.
