County residents can seek flood aid

Red Deer County residents whose homes were damaged by huge downpours in mid-July can register for provincial disaster funding.

A registration session will take place on Monday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Springbrook Fire Hall.

Funding is available in connection with heavy rainfall on July 12 and 13.

Those registering should bring contact information for their insurance brokerage and a letter from their insurer indicating the condition of their coverage. Providing a list of damages and property losses will help speed up the registration process.

Environment Canada reported about 100 mm of rain fell between July 12 and 14 in this region. So much rain fell that sewer systems in Penhold were overwhelmed and flooding was also reported in other areas of the county.
