Canada Day
Always impressed by City of Selkirk Fireworks and last night was no exception. Saw lots of great Canadian Spirit and I am Proud our company sponsors the Event. Last night being Friday they started them up a little later than usual and i like the idea - 0ver 4000 in attendance not bad for a city with a population of 10191, but of course the RM of St Clements and St Andrews were both involved. The waterfront is gorgeous and i remember being president of the Chamber of Commerce in the Early 90's when Dick Willows and his Group had this waterfront vision - we had trouble getting some of the land that was in booth size portions ie 20x40 ft and trouble getting our vision financed. Much like the rec complex there was opposition to its development and now it's hard to imagine the city without it.
I hope you have the good fortune to recognise vision and leadership when it presents itself as an opportunity to your community, because there will be opposition and nay-sayers who try and dilute your enthusiasm. Not that every town needs a monorail but if it would make a positive difference with a little financial pain its probably in the common good.
