Additional Charities to consider

It is what we leave behind that matters most.

Here are some of the  organizations that I support. If you are searching for an opportunity to contribute, please take a moment to consider these.

B.C. Childrens Hospital Foundation

While listening to interviews of children and families from the hospital during a radiothon a number of years ago, I was so moved that I had to pull over to the side of the road. I called in an immediate pledge, but that didn’t seem enough. So for the past few years I’ve been donating time on the phones at that same radiothon and of course continuing to contribute to this very worthy cause. I can tell you categorically, that being able to be a very small cog in this very large wheel continues to be an incredibly meaningful experience for me every year.

In Their words;

Since 1982, BC Children’s Hospital Foundation has raised money to support the work of BC Children’s Hospital, the province’s only pediatric acute care hospital. Funds raised help pay for essentials such as equipment, research and education, benefiting the over 67,000 young patients from across British Columbia who depend on the Hospital each year.

In Their words:

The West End Seniors’ Network Society’s mission is to improve the quality of life for all older adults in our community.

World Kindness Concert

This annual event is the primary fundraiser for the coinspiracy project, an innovative program developed by two lower mainland teachers to raise awareness of how kind acts can enact positive change. A great program with proven results.

In Their words;

The KindActs Network Associations mission is to inspire human connection and activate the practice of kindness locally and globally, to create a kind world one kind act at a time. In addition to participating at the provincial level, KindActs is also a member of the World Kindness Movement, a growing network of kindness organizations in 19 countries. We are now entering our 10th year of service!

The Coin-spiracy is a program developed for schools/youth groups to raise awareness for how kind acts can create positive global change. Already 45 countries have been reached through the ripple effect of simple kind action! Find out how your group can be an agent for positive change.

The World Kindness Concert is a yearly event that features talented local artists from a variety of cultures and influences as well as kindness highlights from around the world. This event not only raises spirits but is an annual fundraiser for the Coin-spiracy project.

Alano Club of Vancouver

Estimates are that 1 out of every 15 people are directly impacted by an alcoholic. This facility is a safe haven for those looking for another way.

In Their words;

The Alano Club of Vancouver is a non-profit association intended as a resource for Alcoholics Anonymous members and groups, as well as any individual who has a desire to stop drinking. Members from other 12-Step programs, especially the Al-Anon Family Groups, are also welcome.

The Alano Club of Vancouver was incorporated under the British Columbia Societies Act in 1950, although it actually came into existence three years earlier. From its’ earliest beginnings the Alano Club has been an important "stepping stone", for many recovering from the terrible effects of addiction, and has been an invaluable tool in helping them to become healthy and productive members of our community.

Kiva

This site is a wonderful idea and a very strong learning tool that proves you CAN make a difference. Amazing to watch $25 change a family’s destiny.

In Their words;

Kiva lets you connect with and loan money to unique small businesses in the developing world. By choosing a business on Kiva.org, you can "sponsor a business" and help the world’s working poor make great strides towards economic independence. Throughout the course of the loan (usually 6-12 months), you can receive email journal updates from the business you’ve sponsored. As loans are repaid, you get your loan money back.

West Coast Ride To Live

This very worthy cause, fighting mens prostate cancer, has been riding through our streets for the past three years. Formerly known as "The Ride for Dad", the name change represents a strong need to keep the funds that are raised in B.C. and to have more control over the allotment of those funds. There are both a Vancouver Ride and a Vancouver Island Ride. Both Rides are supproted by the 911 Community; Police, Fire, Ambulance and Sherriffs of B.C. "The Ride to Live" is a dedicated orginization of volunteers committed to saving B.C. men from prostate cancer. This charity is unique amoung others in that it is run 100% by volunteers. Riders and passengers can register online to join the Ride, and non-riders can pledge online and show up at the final destination , or points along the route, to show their support.
