"The secret to a rich life is to have more beginnings than endings." Dave Weinbaum
"I think in terms of the day's resolutions, not the year's." Henry Moore
‘When patterns are broken, new worlds emerge.’ Tuli Kupferberg
Happy New Year to you all! I gathered these quotes because they really encapsulated all that I have been thinking about in this New Year. Everybody does a "Best Of.." list or a stream of resolutions, only to be broken, with un-needed drama attached. I think that there is a fair amount to be gleaned from simply trying something new and therein experience life in a new way. It's a great way to break old habits by creating new ones and the only way to discover new things about yourself and the world around you. So, in the spirit of new beginnings, here are a few ideas to get you into a NEW frame of mind and being for the year ahead.....

January 8, 9, 15, 16, 29, 30, 2011 Eagle Point Tour
Did you know that the Harrison River has one of the largest concentrations of bald eagles in North America in a one square mile radius? Yes they are right here in your backyard. With over 2000 eagles feeding on the spawning salmon in the area, it truly is a sight to see. The best way to view the eagles is on board an ATV. BC Power Sports can take you up to 2200 feet above sea level to soar with the eagles. They will mesmerize you as they effortlessly hang in the wind above, it is truly breathtaking! Take pictures and enjoy the sights on this exclusive BC Power Sports Eagle Point tour. http://bcpowersports.com
This just sounds amazing! Remember that only the full grown Bald Eagles have the pure white heads; the young ones are all brown. Then there are the beautiful Golden Eagles - very big and very golden brown. They are often mistaken for juvenile Bald Eagles, but are actually more closely related to Hawks than eagles.
January 13, 2011 Walk Myself Home: An Anthology to End
Violence Against Women
Every minute of every day, a Canadian woman or child is sexually assaulted. Half of Canadian women have experienced at least one incident of physical or sexual violence since the age of 16. There is an epidemic of violence against women in Canada and the world. For many women physical and sexual assault, or the threat of such violence, is a daily reality. Please join us for readings from Walk Myself Home (Caitlin Press), an anthology of poetry, fiction, nonfiction and oral interviews on the subject of violence against women including contributions by Kate Braid, Yasuko Thahn and Susan Musgrave. (Admission is free. Seating is limited. Co-sponsored by Caitlin Press). Vancouver Public Library,Central Branch 350 W. Georgia Street, 604-331-4040, www.vpl.ca
This is such an important issue and too often swept under the proverbial carpet. In fact, this year marks the 2nd annual International Conference on Violence Against Women. Violence Against Women: Complex Realities and New Issues in a Changing World will bring together researchers, practitioners, political decision makers, and students from around the world to share knowledge and practices and debate current issues in the field.

Ongoing until March 31, 2011 The Golden Age of Steam Ship
Maritime Museum Vancouver
This exhibit is focused on the Wallace and Madeleine Chung donation of important early 20th century steamship ephemera and artifacts. The exhibition will draw upon more than 600 posters, ship models, and over 4,000 archival items. Collection includes pamphlets, reports, deck plans, promotional brochures, clippings, books and photographs. http://www.vancouvermaritimemuseum.com/
When is the last time you were at the Maritime Museum? This is a real gem of a museum, too often over looked. The St. Roche, in it's full glory, is the centre piece of the building - it was actually built around this amazing boat. It was an RCMP vessel built in 1928 and spent 20 years as a floating Police Detachment in Canada's Arctic. I could tour the boat time and again - so will the kids.
Not to mention the collection of all things sea-worthy in the other half of the museum - a real delight.

I also encourage you to check out some of the Charities that I support on my website (see link below), and possibly find another way to stretch yourself this year? Thanks so much. Be well.
