An excerpt from one of the local newspapers, the Haliburton Echo's, Angelica Blenichtell us that "The arena in the Dysart Community Centre will be closed until at least February 2013, according to Dysart et al Reeve Murray Fearrey. The closure will be to allow the building to be gutted as it undergoes a major renovation.
The upgrades will take at least six months to complete and will cost in the neighbourhood of $1 million, according to the reeve. The facility upgrades are necessary as substantial leaks are causing brine to seep into the ground, said Fearrey." At present, local groups who have annually had use of the ice in this facility are attempting to work out ice time schedules with nearby arenas.
Although, we are currently unable to go inside this building there is still work being done outside the building to highlight the extraordinary professional sports accomplishments of several local men. On Sunday, August 26th a new portrait was revealed on the side of the arena of Buffalo Sabres Cody Hodgson.
Cody Hodgson is now immortalized on the outside of the arena along with former NHLer's, Bernie Nicholls & Ron Stackhouse as well as Colorado Avalanche's Matt Duchene on the side of the Dysart Community Center. Clearly hockey is a force to be reckoned with in Haliburton however, another sport will be represented later this year - when the portrait of CFL, Edmonton Eskimos, Mike Bradley will be revealed.
What an achievement for a county with such a small overall population to have so many gifted athletes within our midst!
