Mothers Day Ramble - Sunday May 12

A "Left Bank" tour of Haliburton Village

- Discover the Sculpture Forest -

FoRT invites you to meet at 11:00 am, Sunday May 12, at Haliburton Highlands Museum (take Bayshore Rd off Hwy 118 W of Haliburton) for the second Sunday Ramble this season exploring the Village Pathways. This Mothers Day Ramble will focus on our own world-famous Sculpture Forest. Did you know that this attraction receives approximately 10,000 visitors a year??? Come and discover its secrets.

Last summer, a new sculpture commission resulted in one of my favourites. "A Conspiracy of Ravens" was selected by the patron, Noreen Blake, from a field of many applicants. The winning artist drove the sculpture across country welded onto the roof of his car. Each sculpture carries its own story - please join us this Sunday to appreciate the dimensions of this storied sculpture trail.

This deck is a perfect spot to reflect and

enjoy Head Lake. It's open to the public. >

We'll discover its hiding spot along the way.

The social lunch Après could be at Hali's Bistro or McKecks - we'll take a poll.

Century 21 Canada Open House Blitz

We are pleased to be participating in the Century 21 Canada Open House Blitz.

On Saturday, May 4th take a tour of Minden with open houses scheduled from 9am - 1pm.

and on Sunday, May 5th you can tour the Carnarvon Area with open houses scheduled from 10am - 1pm

Francis Rd Ramble - Sunday April 21

Après - encore - Wintergreen Pancake Barn

FoRT invites you to meet at 11:00 am at Francis Rd and the rail trail. Directions: From County Rd 1 in Gelert, take Sedwick Rd to the East, go over the cement bridge, turn R onto Francis Rd. Park safely.

This is a favourite Ramble! First, we'll head south on the Rail Trail to explore the iron railway bridge over the Drag River. We can walk down a footpath to the riverside, and see the impressive stonework underneath.

Then we'll head N to meet up with special guest Marion Sedgwick, who will regale us with tales of the family farm and Gelert pioneer history.

The trail passes through extensive farmland, past the Sedgwick gravel pit, and meanders around curves through forest, with glimpses of river valley.

We're returning to Wintergreen Pancake Barn for lunch. The menu offers good value for $7 - no tax / cash only.

Looking ahead - Next Sunday's final Ramble on the Rail Trail:

April 28 - Meet at Lochlin Community Centre parking lot. Ramble S through open wetlands to Ritchie Falls.

Then 4 Sunday Rambles in Haliburton Village:

May 5 - Heritage House Cafe for "Over the Hills and thru' the Woods"

May 12 - Haliburton Museum for a guided Mothers Day tour of the Sculpture Forest

May 19 - Rails End Gallery for a Victoria Day weekend family outing all the way around Head Lake Trail

May 26 - Haliburton Library for Drag River and Bailey Dam. Then FoRT Members' Potluck and AGM at the Library.
