I'm Like The Littlest Hobo with Pants

Recently, I was meeting with some clients of mine after an intense month-long period in which I listed and sold their current home and then shopped with them to find and acquire a new home that better fit their needs.  It had been an intense process and after all the late nights of negotiations and house shopping road trips, we had become friends.  We were going through the important paperwork to remove all of their purchase conditions and firm up the deal and my client sighed deeply and said, "we're gonna miss you Grant."  I had never had a client say this to me in these words and after a chuckle, I honestly told them that I felt the same way.  These were some of the nicest folks you will ever meet and I had truly enjoyed my time with them.

"I'm kind of like The Littlest Hobo", I replied without much thought.  You see, I had recently stumbled upon a couple reruns of this much-loved retro Canadian drama somewhere between channel 100 and 150 and I thoroughly enjoyed reliving my childhood through the most amazing dog on Earth.  Strangely, when I thought of my role in peoples' lives as a REALTOR, Canada's favorite German Shepherd was the first thing that came to mind.

After getting over some basic differences (less body hair, English fluency, pants), the similarities between my role in peoples' lives and that of The Littlest Hobo are quite striking.  I enter people lives with a purpose and I must build relationships and trust with them quickly so that I am able to advise and guide them in making important live-changing decisions.  During intense, high-emotion negotiations, I interact with people from early in the morning until late at night, seeing them at their best and their worst. Sometimes, it feels like I'm part of the family.

My goal in entering my clients lives during this exciting time is to guide them towards their goals and help them make decisions and solve problems to see their goals become real.  This job definitely isn't for everyone, but when I look at my strengths, weaknesses, and personality, I definitely believe that I was made for a job like this.

"There's a voice, that keeps on calling me

Down the road - that's where I'll always be

Every stop I make, I make a new friend

Can't stay for long, just turn around and I'm gone again

Maybe tomorrow I'll wanna settle down..."
