If you build it...
Excerpt from www.Rutlanders.ca - Rutland's Community Website:

My friends Pat & Kara Aylard live in the Scotty Creek neighborhood in Ellison and this year they decided to turn their driveway into an ice rink. Their kids are starting to get into hockey and Pat grew up playing on the community rink in Mara, BC (North of Enderby) and he wanted try and give his kids a similar experience.
This ice rink definitely isn't regulation size, but what it lacks in size, they have definitely made up for with enthusiasm. Flood lights, a sound system, a fire pit complete with hot dogs and marshmallows have helped to make this little rink a neighborhood attraction.

"There are neighborhood kids playing out there pretty much all day long", Pat said, "We had a bit of a neighborhood party on Sunday. The ice seems to attract..... the fire, lights and music help as well I guess. It was really cool, turned into an all out party, weenie roast and stuff."

This is why Rutland is so great. People are friendly, unassuming and not afraid to get to know their neighbors.
Thanks to the Aylards for making their neighborhood a better place this winter and for giving a whole bunch of kids some great memories.
Merry Christmas Rutlanders - this will be my final post before Christmas.
