Excerpt from www.Rutlanders.ca - Rutland's Community Website:

The Rutland Centennial Committee is holding its last celebration for Rutland's 100th anniversary on Friday, October 3rd, 2008. There will be a re-enactment of the first mail delivery from Kelowna to Rutland Post Office. The first postmaster, Dan McDonald was appointed on October 1st, 1908 and the first mail delivery from Kelowna was on October 2nd, 1908 to Dan McDonald's Store located at the northwest corner of Hwy33 & Rutland Road.
A group will meet at the Costco parking lot at the corner of Baron and Ziprick Roads at 3:30 pm. There will be a short ceremony to transfer the mail then everyone will get in their cars and follow the mail up Hwy 33, left on Rutland Rd then left into the Rutland Centennial Park for cake and coffee. Come to Costco and be part of the convoy, cheer us on as we pass by or be part of the awaiting crowd at the Rutland Centennial Park.
Warning to the drivers that the road will have more traffic than usual on Hwy 33 W and Rutland Rd somewhere between 3:30 and 4:00 pm on October 3rd. Sorry for any inconvenience that this might cause.
