Whistler, British Columbia

Planning a getaway vacation this winter?  Instead of Florida or the Caribbean how about staying home this year.  Makes sense with the value of the dollar, and some of the great vacation spots right here in Canada. In almost all reviews have Whistler B.C. as one of the top, if not the top, destinations to travel to in Canada.

Whistler is truly the winter playground for anyone visiting Canada, and although it’s known for its spectacular downhill skiing, that’s not all that entices visitors here. Winter activities here range from dog sledding to sleigh rides to winter fishing to skating to snow cat tours and more.  As one of Canada's preeminent ski resorts, you'll find all sorts of awesome winter activities: skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, heliskiing, glacier skiing, snow tubing and, for those who'd rather stay warm, dozens of cool spas, including Scandinave (a natural hot springs spa).  Add in an abundance of hotels and chalets, along with incredible dining choices, and it is really a no brainer why this is number one on many lists. Located just two hours from Vancouver, Whistler is easy to get to, hard to leave and absolutely breathtaking in terms of scenery.  Expect plenty of snow, plenty of winter sports enthusiasts and the laid-back feel of a ski town. If you really want to spoil yourself, consider booking a room as the Nita Lake Lodge, a luxury lodge with incredible farm-to-table dining and awesome amenities.

Canada’s most famous ski setting, Whistler celebrates its 50th anniversary this winter. Look for a number of special events at the resort, which has more than 200 runs on two mountains and was, of course, one of the hosts of the 2010 Winter Olympics.
