Contemplating a Spring Renovation? What Homeowners Should Think About Before Beginning

Now that spring has arrived, homeowners are starting to plan what areas of their homes they want to renovate and refresh. Though homeowners are eager to begin the renovation process, they need to be cautious about not getting carried away. Here are some helpful steps to ensure your spring home renovation runs as smoothly as possible:

 Set a realistic budget.

Home renovations are not cheap. For example, to renovate a bathroom from top to bottom depending on its size can start at $15,000. Quality renovations could be more expensive. Renovating a bathroom can be money well spent.

 Consider hiring a designer.

Hiring a designer to assist with your home renovation is a worthwhile expense. They will ensure that your renovation meets your needs and wants. If a professional contractor is completing the renovation, they are more than likely to have designers on staff.

 Pick a reputable company.

When meeting with a potential contractor, if the only way you will be able to contact them is through their cell phone, then maybe you should consider looking for other contractors before making a final decision. Consider hiring a company that has been around for a while and that is professional (for example, provides an address and proper business cards where they can be contacted).

 Ask for references.

Professional contractors with a reputable business are confident in the work they have done on other renovations. It would be a good idea to call his references to see how they liked their work.

Get permits.

Your home is your largest investment, so it is important to protect it at all costs and  enjoy the peace of mind that comes with knowing the job was done properly and legally.

 Get it in writing.

It is important to make sure every step of your home renovation is detailed, fully explained to you and presented in a contract to which both the homeowners and contractor should agree.

 Ask about a warranty.

A renovation company with longevity and a positive reputation should have no problem providing a warranty for the renovation.
