Tis the season to enjoy the Christmas lights and decorations around your neighbourhood. Your family might have a tradition of hopping into the family car, cranking up the Christmas tunes and looking for the best decorated house. Here is a list of some of the most famous Christmas houses that we've all seen in Christmas movies. Which famous Christmas houses are some of your family's favourite?
A Christmas Story (1983), Parker house: the house from A Christmas Story is known as a special kind of movie house. Not only has it been restored back to its original look as it did in the film, but it's also inhabited by everyone's favourite little brother Randy, who actually lives in the house.
Home Alone (1990), McCallister house: check out this classic 1921 estate that starred in the popular Christmas movie Home Alone. The house is located in Winnetka, Illinois. You might not be able to go inside the McCallister home, but drive by 671 Lincoln Avenue to see this house that we love to see every Christmas season. Even when the house isn't decked out in holly and Christmas lights, this redbrick Colonial Georgian house is always recognizable.
It's a Wonderful Life (1946), Martini house: is located in the fictional Bailey Park which is located in the fictional Bailey Park where George presented the Martini Family with their new home. The actual home is located in La Canada Flintridge, California.
Elf (2003), Hobbs apartment: who can forget Will Ferrell's hilarious heartfelt journey as Buddy in the movie Elf? Buddy learns his father lives in a stately Upper West Side building, otherwise known as Hobbs apartment, which is located at 55 Central Park West. It's the only place where you'll probably find the spirit of Buddy the Elf.
Christmas Vacation (1989), Griswold house: want to check out the Griswolds' festive house that has been decked out for the Christmas holidays? Head to 4000 Warner Boulevard in Burbank, California to see this iconic house that has roughly 25,000 twinkling Christmas lights strung from the Griswolds' house.
The Holiday (2006): Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz swap homes in the movie The Holiday. While Cameron stays in Kate's cozy cottage in the English countryside, Kate temporarily takes up residence in a luxurious mansion in Los Angeles. The exterior shots of the home were filmed at architect Wallace Neff's Mission Revival home in San Marino, California. Built in 1928, the 10,000-square-foot mansion includes five bedrooms and nine bathrooms.
