On Monday October 25th an agreement was reached between the Federal Competition Bureau and CREA, or organized real estate to open the market to discount brokers.

“CREA shall not adopt, maintain, or enforce any rules that deny the ability of members to provide mere postings for sellers, or that discriminate against members because they offer, or wish to offer, mere postings for sellers”

What does this mean to you the buyer or seller?

The deal means that discount agents who continue to simply list their clients’ property and does nothing else will be protected.

 A full-service broker will continue to offer a full array of services, which include but are not limited to; providing a full and comprehensive knowledge of homes in the neighbourhood, provide analysis and statistics in a comparative market analysis that offers the seller the maximum value of their home and property. Picking up clients to show homes, listing properties correctly, conducting open houses and staging homes to appeal to more buyers. Offer multiple websites and exclusive domain names and GOOGLE ad words. Arrange for professional floor plans, photos, virtual tours and feature sheets or booklets. Plus much more.

The choice is yours, but in a competitive market like today it will take a lot more effort to give you the highest return on your real estate investment and you need an agent that delivers expertise and services so clients can focus on their daily lives and get that home sold or find the right house, without wasting their time and money.
