After 4.5 hours of deliberations, council passed the 2014 Operating Budget on Monday evening.
By the end of the meeting, council was able to lower a proposed 5.9% tax hike down to 3.8% with unanimous consent from council.
In the budget, roughly #300,000. worth of additional community grant requests were approved, but with the crunched this year from the new courthouse an land ambulance costs, the money will be taken from the working reserve.
On documents presented to council, only grants to the Royal Canadian Legion and STEGH were initially recommended. Alderman Gord Campbell took exception to that and said that council should be supporting most of the requests in front of them.
