A shingles life span depends on many factors. The steeper the pitch, the longer the life - a southern exposure wears out faster, animals and surrounding trees are a factor. If the attic is not vented properly - you get a shorter life span, etc.
So after 10 or 15 years you find yourself needing a replacement and you still have your receipts you go after warranty. The warranty is pro rated - so if it took say 40 bundles to do your roof and you got half the expectancy - the manufacturer will in most cases supply you with 20 bundles, the cost of removal and replacement is not covered. So as an example a 300 sq. ft. roof at todays prices - approx. $2,210. Depending on the difficulty of the job, the labour and disposal will cost between $7 - $10 thousand minus $1105. leaving you with a substantial payment ammortized over 15 years. Theres $40 to $50 a month addition to your budget!
