Residents and/or property owners of Mountview and Summit are encouraged to attend an information session regarding the possible formation of a Neighbourhood Association in the area. This meeting will take place on May 30, from 7-8pm at the St. Clements gymnasium. The Mountview West Neighbourhood Safety Team formed in October 2012, whereas Mountview East formed in May 2013. They have some great ideas for the Mountview/Summit areas and at this meeting residents can learn how forming a Neighbourhood Association can bring these to fruition. Organizers will also be discussing the role that the Board of Directors will play in the association and hopefully identify those volunteers willing to take on this role.
There are many advantages to forming a Neighbourhood Association such as the ability for all residents to communicate and cooperate on priorities and having these priorities managed by the association to take advantage of neighbourhood resources (volunteers, finance, insurance, etc). Input and support from other like-minded organizations is another advantage. So far the city has two Associations formed in the Mission and Pinnacle areas, as well as having several others in the process.
The required steps to forming an Association in your area are to first hold an information session. Next, an Annual General Meeting will be held where the Board of Directors will be appointed. Once this is registered with the city the newly formed Association will be granted a $2500 annual operating budget. The only thing left to do would be to get involved and have fun making your neighbourhood a great place to live!
