Century 21 Heritage Group Ltd. Realtors and staff set out on Wednesday evening on March 27th at 6:30PM, in chilly temperatures, to collect as many non-perishable emergency food donations possible for The Helping Hand Food Bank. They split into teams and individually knocked on resident’s doors in the neighbourhood of Summerlyn Village in Bradford.
There was an overwhelming display of generosity that residents exhibited when they handed back heaping bags of goods. Century 21 Realtors were able to collect 250Lbs of food that was later dropped off to the Food Bank.
Anne Silvey, a long term and devoted volunteer and President of the Volunteer Committee was there to greet the Century 21 Realtors early Thursday morning for the food donation drop off. Anne is one of approximately 80 to 100 valuable volunteers that support The Food Bank by donating their time. “Community involvement is important for everybody; without it we would not be a community” Anne says, she as well as others provides community service by working on alternating schedules to ensure that food is organized and available for families in need.
Century 21 holds strong community involvement values, hoping that their contributions will inspire local residents to become, or continue to be involved in the community.
“This is something that we are looking to continue doing on a regular basis, in various neighbourhoods. At Century 21, serving the community is something that is close to our hearts” says Karon Langton Manager of the Century 21 office in town.
Since their food collection Realtors at Century 21 have organized an online community social group on Facebook called ‘The Helping Hand Food Bank Bradford & Century 21’. They are currently deciding which neighbourhood to visit next and anticipate another collection in the near future. For more information visit them online at www.facebook.com/thehelpinghandbradford where community members can follow, like and engage in their page.
