Holi is a festival that is celebrated by Hindu's to honour Krishna in February or March. This year Rangwali Holi is celebrated on March 24, 2016.
It is widely known as a celebration where colourful powders are thrown around by people in celebration of the arrival of spring. The colourful powder is known as gulal. This is just one part of Holi. Holi is celebrated in two parts Holika Dahan and Rangwali Holi.
Holika Dahan takes place the night before Rangwali Holi where wood and dung-cakes are burned. This act symbolizes good defeating evil.
Rangwali Holi occurs the next morning, following Holika Dahan. This is the part of the celebration where people chase one another around throwing colourful powder or gulal on one another while getting drenched in water.
