What does a " Substantially Renovated Home " mean? Do you need to pay HST when selling?

Are you planning on substantially renovating a home and selling it ? Sometimes renovated homes are subject to HST charges, as are new constructed homes. CRA considers a home substantially renovated if 90% of its interior walls have been removed . This means you will need to charge HST to the buyer, which won't make the price of your home very attractive anymore. Same thing applies to residential rental properties.
