The Town of Elmira is the largest community within Woolwich Township. The secondary school in this area (Elmira District Secondary School) draws in students from surrounding towns such as St. Jacobs, Conestogo, St. Clements, Winterbourne, and many more because it is the closest to these communities within the township.
Elmira is known for its Annual Maple Syrup Festival that had been established in 1965. This festival regularly attracted people from all over the world and brings in an abundance of tourists every year, with as many as over 60 000 people making a trip to this community to visit as well as buy local sweets, pancakes, hand-made crafts and, of course, maple syrup being sold.
Elmira's main body of water is Canagagigue Creek which flows southeast 4 kilometres before joining the Grand River.
Elmira is a beautiful place to settle down if you are looking for the lush greenspace and fresh air of the country. It is an ideal area for large plots of land and the privacy that comes with it.
