Oakville, ON

The Town of Oakville is a beautiful lakeside town with a strong sense of history and community. Founded in 1857, with a current population of 165,000 it is ideally located in a beautiful natural setting at the mouth of the Sixteen Mile Creek on Lake Ontario. Oakville is a sought after residential area. It has an excellent reputation for a quality lifestyle. It is one of the safest communities in Ontario with a low crime rate and very involved populace. It has a first class hospital and excellent schools.

Who Lives There

Average income in Oakville is well above the average. The residents comprise an exceptionally high number of executives, professionals and business owners.  Due to its proximity and easy transit access to Toronto, it is becoming popular with a growing number of mid level executives.

Things to Do

Located right on Lake Ontario, Oakville offers an unlimited amount of recreational and cultural opportunities. One man-made, and two natural harbours, provide lots of spots for sail and power boats. Downtown Oakville and the village of Bronte offer fabulous shopping and high end restaurants as well a Performing Arts Centre that attracts many big name performers every year. The historical centre of Oakville, along with the Historical Society and the Erchless Museum provides plenty of opportunities to explore Oakville’s heritage. Annual events like the Oakville Jazz Festival and Midnight Madness events are always very well attended. Located 30 minutes from Toronto by train, and one hour from Niagara Falls by car, Oakville’s surrounding area offers a wide range of activities within easy reach. Several first class golf courses are located in and around town, including the well known Glen Abbey Golf Course, home of the Canadian Open.  To accommodate Oakville’s growing population and its many young families, the town also offers state of the art recreation centres and many parks and sport facilities.

Neighbourhoods

Downtown, Old Oakville, Eastlake, and the Lakeshore corridor are among the most sought after, and expensive, residential areas with many custom built, multi-million dollar, luxury homes, as well  historical, protected properties. Increasingly, many luxury condos and townhouses are also being built in this area. The middle part of town clustered around the QEW features established neighbourhoods with well maintained properties. In the north and west part of Oakville, extensive building has created family friendly new subdivisions, however, prices are still high, on average about $500,000 for a detached family home. The central core around Trafalgar Road is seeing an increased emphasis on high density housing with easy transit access to the QEW and the Go train into Toronto.
