Tweed is very proud to be the home of one of the smallest jailhouses in the province of Ontario. The jail measures just 4.9 metres x 6.1 metres! It was built in the year of 1898 and served as a jail until 1950. The jailhouse consists of 3 jail cells and can fit a max of 35 people in the whole jail. In the late 1800’s, during the Depression, men looking for work would sneak into the jailhouse and the women working there would provide food and shelter for the winter. Today it is an O.P.P. community station, mainly for tourists.
