It is a joy to live in Kitchener-Waterloo when the temperature drops and the skating rink appears in Waterloo Public Square. Last week I sat on one of the benches surrounding the rink watching the skaters and couldn't help but smile at all the different skaters passing by. I was filled with admiration for the skaters who were effortlessly gliding across the ice passing one leg over the other navigating the curves with speed and grace. I was also pleased to see new Canadians trying out their skating legs, giggling as they ended up sitting on the ice. The preschoolers were endlessly entertaining as they skooted along, holding tight to their chairs with their ankles brushing the ice. Monday mornings preschool children with skating aids and parents pushing strollers are welcome on the ice. Friday nights are Shake-n-Skate night where you get to skate to the music a DJ plays.
Please go to www.cityofwaterloo.on.ca fro a current skating schedule.
If you are planning on skating at Waterloo Square bring your own skates as there is no skate rental. There are outside benches where you can sit and put on your skates and if you need to warm up or use the bathroom you can go into Waterloo Town Square.
I plan on getting my skates sharpened and heading out to the rink on Friday night. I hope to see you there!
