Rockway is a community within Kitchener that is most well known for its garden area, Rockway Gardens, where people often use the space for pictures during weddings and/or other special events. Close to downtown Kitchener, this neighbourhood is right off of highway 7 and houses the Tri-cities only arts high school, Eastwood Collegiate Institute.
Also in this neighbourhood is the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium Complex, known locally as “The Aud”. This is Kitchener’s leading sports and entertainment facility which has three arenas, a ball park, Centennial Stadium (often used for track and field events), a skate park, and luxury box seating in the main arena. It has hosted events such as international and national sports competitions, family shows, concerts, and trade shows. Some of these events include KISS, Elton John, Nat King Cole, Akon, The Memorial Cup, World’s Women’s Hockey Championship, and the Kitchener-Waterloo Home and Garden Show. In addition, the Aud is home to Kitchener’s OHL (Junior A) hockey team, the Kitchener Ranger’s.
Rockway Golf Course is a popular landmark in the area, being one of Kitchener’s two public golf courses. This 18-hole course was built in 1935, during the Great Depression, on a former Sewage Treatment Plant site.
The Rockway neighbourhood is home to Rockway Mennonite College, Rockway Seniors Centre, and The Schwaben Club (a club who’s culture is based in parts of Germany, Hungary, and former Yugoslavia).
The age of homes in the area are about 50-60 years old, with houses selling at an average of about $230 000 in the last 12 months, the higher end being around $325 000.
