The Province of Ontario passed a law last week making an Energy Audit mandatory when selling a home.
The new rules will be phased in slowly over the next few months and years. Homeowners can get off the hook only if the potential buyer of their home waive the right to an energy audit in writing.

A backlash from consumers and other organizations in Ontario over a plan which would require an energy audit every time a home is sold has been removed from the proposed legislation. The energy audits will no longer be mandatory.

The Ontario Home Energy Act - Bill 150 is currently in Second Reading in the Ontario Legistlature.
