With the recent passing on the Green Energy Act in the Province of Ontario, many homeowners will be considering how to make their homes more energy efficient. Along with this homeowners will also be looking at ways to update and maintain their homes to insure that their investment continues to grow.
CMHC created a comprehensive guide that teaches homeowners how to inspect their homes to identify potential problem areas and then act on them before repairs become costly. The publication is a practical and easy-to-use guide which can make your home safer, more energy efficient and more comfortable year-round. The homeowner learns to look at their home as a system, create and follow a general inspection or Healthy Housing Checklist; quickly identify needed repairs, replacements or maintenance; determine if a qualified home inspector or building expert should be hired; and obtain estimates. Each solution provided recommends who the homeowner should consult with and the estimated skill level required to carry out the repair. The publication includes a handy preventative maintenance calendar for routine checks and upkeep.
The publication is available for a small cost from CMHC through their website http://www.cmhc-schl.gc.ca/en/
