Senior May Be Hurt by the Ontario Home Energy Act - Bill 150

The Ontario Home Energy Act - Bill 150  is currently in Second Reading in the Ontario Legistlature. This Act, if passed , will require all Ontario residents who are selling their homes to have a Home Energy Audit performed and to make the results of that audit available for interested buyers. This may create a hardship on sniors more so than the general population. Seniors who wish to sell their home and use the equity from their property sale to fund their ongoing living expenses, will more often live in a home built prior to 1980. These homes will more often than not be less energy efficient than more modern homes and will require greater retofit costs. Both the cost of the audit and the expenses associated with the retofit , if completed, will create hardship for seniors.
