My Neighborhood Montreal South West

Located southwest of downtown Montreal (hence the name), this neighborhood is bordered to the northwest by Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, to the northeast by  Ville-Marie, to the south by Verdun, to the west by Lasalle and to the north by the city of Westmount. The Saint Lawrence River is located upon part of its eastern edge.
I have lived and worked in this neighborhood for the last 14 years. What drew me to it, was the location (just minutes form downtown and old montreal) , the people ( historically a mixture of working class Irish, English speaking Black and French) and the numerous facilities that it has to offer from the Atwater Market, a farmers market that opened in 1933 . The interior market is home to many butchers, a bakery and restaurant. The outside market has many farmers stalls which sell both local and imported produce, as well as two cheese stores, a wine store specializing in locally produced spirits and a fish store.
Going to work in the morning, I cross the Lachine canal, continuing on Notre Dame street I pass by specialty boutiques, Antique stores and an array of resturants covering a wide range of cuisines in between which a few little city parks give it an urban flavour in the heart of the city.
Although this area has had a great transformation since I first moved in, it has not lost its charm. It is a place that offers you many aminities yet it allows you an escape from the hussle and bussle of being downtown a city. You can have a bite at the Atwater market or any of the resturants on Notre Dame, then take a relaxing stroll on the Lachine canal and if you need to go any where downtown and do not want to deal with parking you can just walk there.
I like the close knit feeling of this place, I know most of the merchants on the street by name, my daughter plays with and knows all the kids in the park accross the street from our home,my wife and a neighbor exchange helpfull tips and plants for the front yard and in the winter we all help each other with the snow removal.

I welcome all of you to come and visit my neighborhood.
