British Columbia home sales started the New Year off on a sluggish note while average BC home prices rose in January 2012. Total active MLS listings across the province also rose as more British Columbian’s entered the real estate market pushing up the total number of homes for sale in BC for the fist time after five consecutive months of decline.
The British Columbia Real Estate Association (BCREA) reported that there were 42,197 active residential MLS listings on the provincial Multiple Listing Service (MLS) in January 2012, up +5.0% from the 40,177 active listings in December 2011.
This follows a -15.6% drop in December to 40,177 active listings which was the second largest month-over-month percentage decline in in all of 2011. Only January 2011 with 38,746 active MLS listings saw fewer BC homes for sale last year.
British Columbia Real Estate – BCREA January 2012 – Active Provincial MLS Listings Increase +5.0% (+2,020 units) to 42,197 total.
Compared to the same month last year, total active MLS listings of homes for sale in British Columbia increased by +6.33% to 42,197 in January 2012 from 38,746 in January 2011.
