Kitsilano is conveniently located just a short distance from Canada’s second largest hospital, Vancouver General Hospital (VGH). This hospital is equipped with 955 beds and offers specialized services to residents in Vancouver and across the province.
VGH is also a teaching hospital, affiliated with the University of British Columbia and home to one of the largest research institutes in Canada. BC Children’s Hospital is also located just on the outskirts of Kitsilano. BC Children’s specializes in caring for the province’s most seriously ill or injured children, including infants and adolescents.
The public transit system surrounding Kitsilano is improving every year. The addition of the Canada Line connecting the Vancouver Airport (YVR) and Downtown Vancouver makes two stops very close to Kitsilano, at 12th & Cambie and 6th & Cambie. This rapid transit line can take you from Kitsilano to YVR in less than 25 minutes. At the moment there is no rapid transit servicing Kitsilano or UBC, but Translink, UBC, Metro Vancouver, and University Endowment Lands are working together on a multi-year technical study for rapid transit service along the Broadway corridor from Commercial Drive west to UBC. Today, if you are looking to get around Kitsilano on public transit Translink’s buses are a fast and efficient mode of transport.

Kitsilano is also home to a number of great community centers and attractions. The most famous attraction is Kits Pool situated on the water in the heart of Kitsilano. Kits Pool stretches out in all its glory to 137 meters! It’s Canada’s longest pool, almost three times longer than an Olympic pool and Vancouver’s only heated salt-water pool. To accommodate every type of pool-goer, the pool is divided into three sections: a shallow section for families, a section of lanes for lap-swimmers and a deep-end for more casual adult bathers. With its white bottom, turquoise water and spectacular views of the ocean, mountains and the city skyline Kits Pool is a vacation destination unto itself, and just stepping through the gates feels like an escape.
Kitsilano is also famous for being home to Forbes’ 3rd Sexiest Beach in North America - runner up to Miami’s South Beach, and Main Beach in East Hampton, NY. Kits Beach is one of the most popular beaches in Vancouver, especially in the warm summer months. Located at the north edge of Kitsilano, the beach faces out onto Burrard Inlet with a stunning outlook spanning from English Bay, to the North Shore Mountains.
