My Olympic Journey - Doug Atkinson - Century 21 In Town Realty - Vancouver, BC CANADA

Me at the Olympics Jumps in Whistler

My name is Doug Atkinson and I have been a realtor for 22 years. I am licensed with Century 21 In Town Realty in Yaletown, the Olympic heart of Vancouver, BC CANADA.

I have volunteered as a DRIVER for the 2010 Olympics. I am driving the athletes from the Olympic Village to the Venues. I am driving figure skaters and speed skaters to Richmond Olympic Oval in Richmond BC, CANADA.

I have been driving since February 3, 2010. I was shuttling athletes around the Olympic Village as they Entered the Village through the Welcome Centre.

The village is beatuiful and is very much like a small community. Athletes from all nations walking among each other and eating in the dining hall. They have access to food 24hrs a day and they can have steaks, soup, sandwiches, MacDonald's and Pizza. I also noticed that a lot of Countries brought their own food in as well. Obviously North American food won't feel like "home" for everyone.

Security is strong and present and I feel very secure each day I work with the Olympics.

I was nervous at first talking with the athletes as I drove them to the venues, but they were practicing and perhaps less focused at that point. I know that in the next few days once competition starts, I will have to allow them to start the conversation. I wouldn't want them to lose their focus on my account. GO CANADA GO!!!

It's a priviledge to drive them and work with the Olympics. Saturday, I will be busy with the Richmond Olympic Oval.
