Great sandwiches and get your bike fixed at the same time!!
I am a sandwich guy, I go everywhere for sandwiches and try them all, I have been to your Subways, Quizno’s, Meat and Bread, La Tortas and so on in this city and my search has now brought me to Tandem.
Tandem is a new concept in cafés, nestled on the corner of Heather and 16th in the old Granger Grocery store, Tandem has opened the cities first Bike Café. What is a bike café? Picture this, you are on your morning commute into the city via the Heather Street bike path when you get a flat tire, no worries because you can stop in to Tandem and have the onsite bike guru Clint fix it. Tandem offers a full service bike shop but that is not all, so your bike is up on the stand getting fix but your stomach needs some tending to, well just pop over to the other side of the café and visit Brett, the man behind the counter and behind all the delicious food creations.
Tandem’s has a wide range of coffees and treats to satisfy anyone’s hunger, if you are there in morning you can sample some fresh pastries, a breakfast sandwich and fresh made coffee. For me this place is all about lunch and the sandwiches, since opening the doors in July I have stopped in for lunch here 5 times to try almost every sandwich on the menu, right now I will have to say that the Heather Street Hamwich right now has to be my favourite, with ham, apple and brie toasted on sour dough beard mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Tandem has a great vibe about it with comfy old skool bus bench seats and a long communal table in the center, Tandem feels just right for the community that surrounds it. So the next time you are biking the Heather Street bike path or you are cruising 16th Street stop in to this new coffee spot for a sandwich and a bike tune up, you will be impressed.
