Vancouver Olympic Rentals May Require a $150 City Permit

As a result of a shortage of hotel room availability during the Olympics, "the city is planning to relax its bylaws to allow rentals of less than 30 days - now prohibited - for the first three months of 2010 as long as owners get a $150 business licence and don't evict any long-term tenants.   Planning staff will present a report to council on the proposed permits on Tuesday. If the proposal is passed, people who rent out their homes without the permit could face a fine of $2,000."  Globe and Mail
