Mission Possible
The WEBIA Board looks ahead five years and likes what it sees. The Board has just adopted a new Mission Statement for the organization: 'To brand, promote and revitalize the West End.' As part of a five-year planning process, the Board has focused on these three areas as keys to our success. This new strategic plan will be presented to our members at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on September 19 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. A complete AGM package will be distributed in the coming weeks. Stay tuned.
Special Events: Music, Movies & More in the West End
Cinema in the Park - Started last night with Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure!
WEBIA is proud to be partnering again with Fresh Air Cinema to bring classic and contemporary movies (think Grease, The Blues Brothers and Back to the Future) in Stanley Park at Second Beach - Ceperley Meadows. Every Tuesday from July 3rd to August 28th, some 5,000 to 8,000 movie-goers will descend onto the grass for some cinema in the park.
For marketing/sponsorship information on how to get your name in front of 5,000+ urbanites, contact Danny Greene at Fresh Air Cinema at 888.358.4285 ext.103 or danny@freshaircinema.ca. For a list of all movies and event nights, visit Fresh Air Cinema.

Looking for some "change"! West End welcomes Vancouver's International Busker Festival
This exciting, inaugural festival is just around the corner. This renowned festival is a big coup for the West End, as our streets will be bustling with entertaining, action-packed shows from some of the world's top street performers - and driving new (and repeat) business to the area. Let's all get behind this event to ensure the West End becomes a major stop on the international circuit for top busker talent.
Thursday, July 11th to Friday, July 13th, from 6:00pm to 10:00pm.
Partial street closures will be on Bute Street, north of Davie Street and on Cardero Street, south of Robson.
Stay tuned for more information.
WEBIA in Action
As branding is one of three strategic areas the Board has identified within its new Mission Statement (see feature story), a Request for Proposals (RFP) was distributed to qualified companies on June 29th [ link to RFP].
Please feel free to forward the RFP to companies that you know would be qualified to submit a proposal. The deadline for submission is July 20, 2012.
Issues & Advocacy
As part of the West End Planning Process, WEBIA recently presented at the City of Vancouver's Ideas Fair. We've received encouraging and positive feedback on our ideas of creating a continuous transit loop and establishing 'gateways' to the West End at Davie and Burrard, as well as Denman and Georgia. Support for revitalizing businesses through smart street design and increasing density (Density Done Well) are key principles that we are advocating.
According to Holly Sovdi, City Planner: 'WEBIA sparked interest in seeing Davie, Denman and Robson become more vibrant, walkable streets.'
