Sumas Prairie

Sumas Prairie is the local name for the productive farmland to the south and east of downtown Abbotsford. Much of this area was successfully reclaimed from being a shallow lake and flood-lands in the early 1900's. This was done with a series of dykes, ditches and canal along with a pumping station at Barrowtown that serves to move water out or in, depanding on the time of year.
