Illuminate Yaletown
Illuminate Yaletown is coming this Weekend
STREET CLOSURES IN EFFECT, PLEASE READ
During Illuminate Yaletown, Mainland St will be closed from Davie St to Nelson St, from 5pm - 11pm.
The closures will only be during the evenings (5pm onwards) of Illuminate Yaletown on February 10 and 11, 2012. There will be no parking or valet service available on Mainland St. for Friday or Saturday night. Daytime traffic will not be affected. Hamilton St will not be affected during Illuminate Yaletown.
Scaffolding and "whisper" generators will be installed to accommodate the art exhibits in key areas of Mainland St. These will be in place from February 9th until February 12th. Every effort will be made to not block businesses for Illuminate Yaletown. The focus is to draw visitors to Yaletown and to your doorstep. All installations will have professional lighting crews on hand to solve any problems that arise.
Important safety note: laser and strobe type lighting effects cannot be displayed, as they can cause serious injury.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING ILLUMINATE
Illuminate Yaletown is an annual event which highlights the district of Yaletown. The event supports the Yaletown reputation as the center of a creative community and home to innovative technology. Mainland Street will showcase over 23 installations of light art, many of them combining multi-media such as light, video, sound and music. The event is free and public.
In 2011, a crowd of 20,000 people visited Yaletown to attend the two-evening Vancouver event. 2012 carries the same two-evening theme, however, in partnering with City and Slope, the event is set to draw in more international visitors and media. Please invite your friends and clients to enjoy this unique Yaletown event!
How can you help? Turn out the lights of your business, a darkened Mainland sets the stage for a fantastic light show.
