Meet our Local Businesses Day 2 featuring La Quaintrelle!

Thank you for joining us for day 2 of our February feature of highlighting lovely local business and aspiring entrepreneurs in Cape Breton.  For February, we are focusing on the Northside :)

Today, we met with the talented Meghan Finney, owner of La Quaintrelle Boutique located at 299 Commercial Street (upstairs in Escape Outdoors) in North Sydney, NS.  La Quaintrelle by definition means "A woman who emphasizes a life of passion expressed through personal style, leisurely pastimes, charm, and cultivation of life's pleasures." How awesome is that for a mission statement!

Meghan has been in business for around 5 years and is adding many beautiful things to our community! Here is what she had to say today:

Tell us about why you started this venture:

I always wanted to start my own business and saw a need here for what La Quaintrelle offers as I could not find unique gifts and clothing available here.  Things like handmade local independent designs and unique items from across the province.Cape

Tell us what it is that you offer/bring to Cape Breton?:

I bring the unique and independent clothing styles and various items that are either fair trade or independent small boutique styles and offer local artisans a space to sell and an opportunity that they may not otherwise have by selling in their homes etc. I also sometimes collaborate with other local businesses in different avenues with workshops, courses, or special events, which is also a great time.

Any big plans coming up?:

I will be offering more handmade goods from across Canada and expanding into jewelry!

What's the most important thing you learned about running your own business in Cape Breton?:

I suppose I would like to say that there is a misconception that starting a business here would be difficult.  I mean, it has its challenges but certainly not difficult.  It really helps that we have the type of community that is known to help and support one another and that's what sets us apart.  There is a great deal of local pride here and an initiative to shop local, which is so great and necessary.

What are your favourite things to do or places to visit in Cape Breton when you are not busy running the business?:

I like to do anything outdoors.  Anything from running, skiing, showshoeing, etc.  I spend a lot of time at Dalem Lake, at various beaches, and the ski hill.  Literally anything active and outside!

Thanks so much Meghan for your input today and sharing your thoughts, we also love your new puppy, George!
