Meet our Local Businesses Day 8 with Lisa Wylde of The Purple Mango!

We have arrived at Day 8 of our businesses blog! Today, we would like to introduce you to Lisa Wylde, Owner/operator of the Purple Mango, located at 151 Queen Street, North Sydney, NS.

The Purple Mango was founded in 2008 by Kimberly Kilback who had a dream of "opening a little boutique hair salon called The Purple Mango, located in a little community called North Sydney, on a little island called Cape Breton where BIG things happen". In 2010, Lisa began working at the salon alongside Kimberly which was located on Archibald Ave and eventually moving to Queen Street in 2012. Shortly after moving to their beautiful new location, Kimberly was diagnosed with skin cancer. Unfortunately, a short time later she lost her battle to this horrific disease.
Kimberly was a beautiful person inside and out, who believed in our community and she did so through volunteering with various organizations in our local area.
Since Kimberly's passing, Lisa has taken on the role of Owner/Operator of the salon and will continue to give to a special organization every year in honor of Kimberly.

Here is what Lisa had to say:

Tell us about why you started this venture?

At a very young age, I have developed a passion for hairdressing; the creativity and possibilities are endless. Helping people feel better about themselves is such an amazing feeling. Along with the gratification of helping clients feeling good, I also love the flexibility this career has to offer. I was lucky enough to have the chance to take the course in high school and obtain a job upon graduating.

Tell us what you offer/bring to Cape Breton:

GREAT HAIR! And in the words of Kimberly " A place where you walk in as a customer and leave as a ROCKSTAR".
I feel that I offer a warm, relaxing and comforting experience to all of my new and existing clients. I have attended many classes and conventions over my 10 years in this profession and, in turn, allows me to offer my knowledge and expertise. I welcome all individuals; males, females, adults, and children and I try my best to provide high quality, professionalism, and exceptional service. It is a fabulous feeling when I am able to install self confidence in my clients and they leave completely satisfied. This is what we call a "Mango Moment".

Any big plans coming up?:

In the upcoming months, I will be attending the Carnival of Beauty in Halifax. I am super excited for this adventure.
I am continuously renovating and updating my shop to provide a great space for my clients to feel welcomed.  Also, in the near future, I hope to have another hairdresser working along side of me, one who is as passionate as I am in this profession.

What is the most important thing you learned about running your own business in Cape Breton:

Success is ultimately the product of hard work and dedication. Providing loyalty and devotion to my clientele has in turn allowed me to succeed in this beautiful community we live in. It is not always easy running your own business in Cape Breton, but I believe that if you have that one special talent that separates you from others, success is attainable. Kimberly has taught me and shown me first hand, what it means to succeed in our little community. It is about family and I could have not gotten this far without our Mango family.

What are your favorite things to do or places to visit in Cape Breton when not busy running the business?:

My most favorite thing to do when not conducting business, is spending time with my wonderful family. We enjoy camping in the summer, visiting Englishtown, Broadcove and exploring everything Cape Breton has to offer.

Thank you Lisa for taking the time to speak to us on your day off!
