The autumn gardening season may be short but it is a fun time of year to experiment with some rich fall colours. Local nurseries and gardening shops are starting to display their assorted fall products.
Cooler temperatures are more enjoyable for some of us who don't like to work in the summer heat.
Start by clearing out summer perennials and pop in some pretty icicle pansies which can bloom right up to December.Mums come in many beautiful colours and can add a pop of colour to your front entranceways or fill in empty spaces in your flower beds. Colourful kale and asters are favorites for a hint of purple in your garden.
Fall is a great time of the year to plant new evergreen trees and shrubs. Adding fall lawn fertilizer is a good idea too!
If you are planting spring bulbs this fall be sure to fool those pesky squirrels who like to dig up your work and re-distribute your bulbs to new sites. Squirrels look for disturbed earth so be sure to rake some mulch or leaves over top your newly planted spring bulbs.
Fresh mulch always tidies up our gardens and your flowerbeds with be ready for springtime planting.
Have fun gardening this fall but don't over do it!
