7 Of Oakville's Most Extravagant Lakeside Homes

Oakville has long had a reputation for being an upperclass kind of town. A very high income per household and the well-known fact that many of Toronto's highest earners choose to reside here lends itself to this distinction. A byproduct of this, naturally, is some over-the-top homes along Lake Ontario. Here is a list of some impressive homes and who owns them.

1) 1150 Lakeshore Road East

Oakvilles-Biggest-HomesHugo Powell, the ex-big shot at Interbrew and Labatt bought three adjacent lots and built his 47,000 square foot mansion at a cost of $50,000,000. Included on the property are a movie theatre, bowling alley, sauna, gym, dance floor, library, wine cellar, chapel, tennis court and pool house.

2) 1198 Lakeshore Road East

Oakvilles-Biggest-HomesThis home was built by former Microsoft Canada president Frank Clegg, weighing in at just over 26,000 square feet and valued at $30,000,000. This house is well known because once it was built, his wife discovered she was allergic to the carpets and finishing chemicals. It was consequently sold to Magna auto parts inventor Klaus Bytzek and features an indoor pool and a two-storey coach house.

3) 2100 Lakeshore Road East

Oakvilles-Biggest-HomesFormer Nortel CEO Frank Dunn sold this home to Martin Lippert, executive VP and IT expert at MetLife. Lippert then installed an infinity pool and a private harbour with an automated boat ramp that is able to take a yacht of up to 28 feet from the water to the boathouse at the push of a button. It is valued at around $17,000,000.

4) 2054 Lakeshore Road East

Oakvilles-Biggest-HomesThe president of TechCraft Manufacturing, which designs furniture with integrated electronics, owns this home. After purchasing it, he installed a virtual reality driving range so he can play any of the worlds top golf courses in the comfort of his own home. The property is currently valued at $15,000,000.

5) 1038 Argyle Drive

Oakvilles-Biggest-HomesJennifer Gilgan, the ex-wife of Mattamy Homes founder Peter Gilgan, bought two lots in 2012 for $24,500,000. One houses this very elegant colonial home and the other a tennis court.

6) 100 Lisonally Court

Oakvilles-Biggest-HomesMatthew Barret, who was CEO of BMO and head of Barclays before retiring and moving to Oakville, lives in this (relatively modest) $10,800,000 home in West Oakville. His property includes a saltwater pool and a 2.3 hectare ravine with trails.

7) 154 Brookfield Crecent

Oakvilles-Biggest-HomesOwned by Malvinder Singh, this home is said to have one of the coast's best views of Toronto from the Lakeshore strip in Oakville. Singh has plans to update as well, including an infinity pool that will have glass sliders to protect from the wind off the lake. He bought the home for $8,000,000 from investor Eric Sprott, who lived here for 26 years.
