Great Tips on How to Conserve Energy at Home and at Work - Plus Energy Conservation Fair June 2, 2012

Energy Conservation Oakville Ontario

We all have choices in our lives that impact the environment. Conserving energy is a lifestyle choice that will both save you money and also help reduce the strain on the planet.

Here are some great tips for conserving energy in your home:

  • Open blinds to let natural light into rooms
  • Turn off lights whenever you leave a room - even if it's just for a few minutes
  • Set the temperature of your fridge to 3 degrees Celsius and freezer to -18 degrees Celsius
  • Air dry your dishes
  • Install low flow showerheads
  • Wash and rinse your clothes in cold water - 85-90% of the energy used is for hot water
  • It's summer! Use an outdoor clothesline to reduce the costs for drying

Here are some great tips for conserving energy in the workplace:

  • Take the stairs instead of the elevator
  • Turn off your monitor when you're away from your desk
  • Service HVAC systems regularly
  • Install CFLs or energy efficient fluorescent tubes
  • Seal leaks and windows and doors
  • Install occupancy sensors and turn off lights that are not in use
